Welcome to the Department of English and American Studies at the University of Paderborn.
Our department is committed to a
broad perspective on language, literature, and culture in the English-speaking
world. We offer degree programs for future teachers (GyGe, GHRGE/BK,
Grundschule), a BA and MA program in English and American Literature and
Culture, and a BA and MA program in Linguistics. 30 faculty members bring
innovative approaches and international experience to their teaching and
research. Guest lecturers from the English-speaking world and various opportunities to study
abroad complement our program, building bridges from Paderborn to the UK,
the US, and beyond.
Important information for students of B.Ed. Gymnasium/Gesamtschule, Haupt-, Real-, und Gesamtschulen, and Berufskolleg concerning "Basismodul Methodische Grundlagen"
The module “Basismodul Methodische Grundlagen” consists of three (basic) seminars (formerly ‘Proseminare’), from the three disciplines linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies. In addition to their specific contextual focus, each of these seminars contains methodological components conveying academic research skills.
“Methodische Grundlagen – Linguistics” treats basic and advanced search for literature, handling the OED and corpora, time management and forms of citation.
“Methodische Grundlagen – Cultural Studies” defines academic research, introduces different text types, and treats the critical evaluation of sources, presentation skills and giving feedback.
“Methodische Grundlagen – Periods and Texts” contains an introduction to reading strategies and term paper writing. The latter includes the set-up, formatting and revising of papers as well as citing sources and compiling bibliographies.
Most seminars that are labeled ‘Proseminar’ in PAUL should contain the described methodological components, so check the commentary text. Be careful, to choose one from each of the fields: linguistics AND literary studies AND cultural studies.
The exam to pass the module (‘Modulprüfung’) can be taken in any of the three seminars. It consists of a term paper of 10 pages focusing on the content of the respective seminar.

Es wurde ein weiteres Research Seminar (L.008.32465) eingerichtet, welches montags von 16-18 Uhr stattfinden wird. Anmeldungen sind in PAUL bis zum 6.5. möglich.
