The Deer Hunter (1978)
This week, we continue our American journey as we screen Michael Cimino’s masterpiece The Deer Hunter (1978). A group of steelworkers (played by a brilliant ensemble of the ‘back then brilliant’ Robert De Niro, Oscar-winning Christopher Walken, John Cazale and John Savage) party one last time before they set out to fight in the Vietnam War. A slow study not only about the horrors of war, but the mental bruises it leaves behind.
The film features some of the best work done by De Niro and Walken.
Also, a young Meryl Streep started her love affair with the Oscars here, as she received her first of 21 Academy Award nominations.
Come and witness the famous Russian roulette scene this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in room H1.232.
