Christoph Ribbat's teaching and research focus on contemporary fiction and nonfiction, cultural history, and visual culture. His book In the Restaurant (Pushkin, 2017) explores the dynamic social history of the modern restaurant. Flickering Light (Reaktion, 2013) presents the story of neon lights in their global urban context. Christoph Ribbat's most recent German-language book tells the life story of Wilbert Olinde, Jr., one of Germany's first African American basketball professionals. He is currently working on the biography of a breathing teacher in mid-20th century Manhattan.
