Foster peacemaking potentials with regard to the future
If humans learn on a scientific level to bring the theological internal perspectives of different religions up for discussion with each other, religions will be enabled to an entirely new way of dialogue. Profound similarities can be discovered and differences can be recognized not as a reason for feud but as motivation for further examination. Humans who respect each other in their last depth will not invoke war with or discriminate others due to the alterity in religions.
Through this it can be expected that theologians work on the different contribution of the respective religion and their impact on the society.
Theologies of world religions
The central research emphasis of the Center for Comparative Theology and Cultural Studies is a dialogue with Islam and Judaism. With this in mind it was one of the founding missions to institutionally embed Islamic Theology and Jewish Studies at the University of Paderborn. It first succeeded with the professorship of Jewish Studies in 2016 followed after years of preparatory work by the establishment of the institute for Islamic Theology in 2019. Through this a research association on an upmost international level could be established which benefits students of different religions and cultural studies.
First the center of comparative theology and cultural studies started to engourage the establishment of Islamic Theology at the University of Paderborn. In the upcoming year other non-Christian religions shall follow.
Through the support of the Mercator foundation two doctorate candidates started to work in the field of Islamic Theology and Islamic religious education in February 2010. The triennial program involves a wide-ranging on site study program, as well as prestigious guest lecturers and research stays abroad and much more.
