OER-Content Project Authentic Englishes.nrw

This projects started in October 2020 and is funded with approx. € 500,000 by the Digitale Hochschule NRW (DH.NRW). It is a joint project where linguistis from the Universites of Bielefeld, Münster and Paderborn work together unti September 2022.  The project is part of the funding on OER-content.nrw. The main aim of the project is to produce digitale teaching material on English Varieties that can be used at university level for teaching. The project is located at Paderborn University where Prof. Dr. Ilka Mindt is the principal investigator.

Mobile Medien im Schulkontext

The edited volume on mobile media in the school context is published together with Prof. Dr. Dorothee Meister from the "Institut für Medienwissenschaften". The volume "Mobile Medien im Schulkontext" focusses on three different perspectives: the media perspective, the subject perspecitve and the didactic perspecitve and tries to highlight the use of mobile media at schools in Germany.

Fellowship for Innovations in Digital Teaching at Universities NRW 2017

Prof. Mindt was a so-called "digi-fellow" in 2017. The federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Stifterverband supported the project "Bridging – Fremdsprache und Fachwissenschaft Heterogenität im Inverted Classroom sowie digitales und soziales Lernen in der englischen Sprachwissenschaft" with approx € 50.000. The main aim of the one-year project was to develop digital teaching materials for a course in English Phonetics and Phonology. More information in German can be found here.

COME TO

Eine detaillierte korpusgestützte Untersuchung zeigt, dass nach COME TO entweder Nomen oder Verben folgen. Wenn Nomen folgen, dann wird TO als Präposition analysiert. Folgen hingegen Verben, ist TO als sogenannter to-infinitive marker zu analysieren. In dieser Untersuchung werden die Vorkommen von COME TO V in Bezug auf ihre Funktion sowie Bedeutung erforscht. Neben einer diachronen Analyse steht auch eine Beschreibung im Modernen Englisch im Vordergrund. Das Ziel dieser Studie ist eine detailliertere Beschreibung der Grammatik des Englischen.

Adjective complementation by that-clauses

Dies ist die erste empirische Untersuchung von Adjektiven, welche von that-Sätzen komplementiert werden. Diese detaillierte Untersuchung von mehr als 50.000 Fällen aus dem British National Corpus stellt die bisher wenig beachtete Beziehungen zwischen der Lexis und der Grammatik dar. Das Ergebnis dieser auf einer induktiven Analyse der Daten gewonnenen Untersuchung ist eine neue Klassifikation von Adjektiven, die auf Ko-Okkurrenzen aufbaut und durch statistische Verfahren gestützt ist. Bekannte Phänomene der englischen Grammatik wie Extraposition oder resultative so… that-Sätze sind Teil der Untersuchung. Die Studie wurde 2011 bei Benjamins veröffentlicht.
