POLARIS - Paderborn online resource for practical research in schools and teaching
Your research work is coming up? - POLARIS can help!
POLARIS offers you structured access to selected literature and other media on common scientific methods of empirical educational and social research.
POLARIS can therefore support you significantly in the preparation and realisation of your research work, e.g. for your:
- Practical study in the practical semester
- Bachelor's or Master's thesis
- Empirically orientated term paper
Why you should use POLARIS
POLARIS is a self-learning resource for students with little knowledge of research methods. Its aim is to provide students with an autodidactic approach to selected methods of empirical school and classroom research in the context of their own empirical studies.
Using a flowchart-like structure, the resource guides you through the research process and offers a structured collection of selected and annotated literature and other media for the individual stages.
POLARIS can support you throughout your research process by providing access to a wealth of helpful information. This includes the structure of a research paper, the use of survey methods, the evaluation of data, aspects of research ethics and much more. Direct links to (excerpts from) books will lead you directly to literature and other media that you can use for your research.

Digital Learning Conference #DLK24

On 19 November 2024, we presented POLARIS at the Digital Learning Conference (#DLK24) at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences (HSBI).
Prof Harry Kullmann first gave the 20 or so participants an insight into the reason for and aims of POLARIS as a "moodle-based learning platform for the autodidactic acquisition of skills in empirical social research" - the title of the presentation.
In the second part, held and organised by Marie Sophie Hinreichs (WHB at POLARIS), the current didactic and content-related implementation was presented. This included a familiarisation and practice phase using a "POLARIS rally".
