"The music, history, musicians, significant locations, and enduring legacy of the blues is synthesized and presented in a variety of ways by Memphis’s many music-centered museums, venues, and tourism services—e.g., Graceland, Sun Studio, The Blues Hall of Fame, Memphis Music Hall of Fame, B. B. King’s Blues Club, Wild Bill’s juke joint, historic Beale Street, and Back Beat Tours. Founded on original fieldwork in Memphis, TN and supported by both tourism theory and critical cultural theory of scholars such as Pierre Bourdieu and Theodor Adorno, this paper analysis Memphis’s public presentations of the blues to determine how such presentations shape popular conceptions about the blues and its value as a cultural, artistic, and economic capital."
Dr. Fritts leitet zudem das Seminar "Music, Myth and Magic" im Sommersemester 2019 im Studiengang Populäre Musik und Medien und wird wird als Gast auf der am 11. Juni stattfindenden Ausgabe der Popkritik mitwirken.
