AG Prof. Dr. Petra Büker

Welcome to the website of the Department of Primary School Pedagogy and Early Education. Children and their educational processes are at the centre of our research and teaching. In particular, we investigate the conditions and concepts of child-orientated education in nurseries and primary schools. The children's perspective plays an important role here - also in connection with questions relating to the professionalisation of educational subject areas and teachers.

„Children and their educational processes are at the centre of our research and teaching.”

Prof. Dr. Petra Büker,
Professor of Primary School Education and Early Childhood Education

About us

Do you have any questions? Would you like some advice or are you interested in the academic profile of certain people?

In our group, academic staff and a lecturer for special tasks conduct research and teach under the direction of Prof. Dr. Petra Büker. We are supported by our secretary and our research and student assistants.

Teaching

Our group offers courses for teacher training students in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes. One focus is on primary school teaching, but we also address students on the Special Needs Education programme and the two-subject Bachelor's degree in Education Studies. You can find our courses on the staff pages and in PAUL. Good teaching is particularly important to us. That is why we are committed to developing, trialling and evaluating new teaching/learning concepts and materials.

Our profile is characterised by basic and practical research in the following key areas:

  • Participation in daycare centres and primary schools
  • Participatory research with children
  • Transitions
  • ESD in primary school
  • Heterogeneity and inclusion in daycare centres and primary schools
  • Research-based learning in teacher training
  • Linking inclusion and digitalisation in teacher education: OER and OEP

KiBi-Z - Centre for Children's Education Research

Our Centre for Child Education Research is the right place for you to go if you would like support in realising your own research project in the context of child, teaching or professional research. You will find the KiBi-Z in room H5.242.

KiBi-TZ Transfer Centre: Cooperation with regional practice

A new transfer office has been created in our department, which is part of the established university learning workshop KiBi-Z (Centre for Child Education Research). Here, students, teachers and practitioners from the OWL education region are brought together in a regular exchange in order to practise a so-called "culture of sharing". Prof. Dr. Petra Büker and Dr. Katrin Glawe (coordinator of KiBi-Z) bring students, school headmasters, teachers and educators into contact via a digital platform. Among other things, student work (research findings and teaching materials) is made available and discussed here in a practical format. In addition, at least two round tables per year are established at which the university and practitioners address current topics in primary school pedagogy and early education in a face-to-face format. Cooperation agreements have already been concluded with several primary schools in the region. The kick-off event took place in May 2024.
