QUICS - Qualitative content analysis of the Corona survey for students
Welcome to the QUICS project!
As part of our QUICS project (Qualitative Content Analysis of Corona Surveys for Students), the numerous contributions from students in the surveys on studying under corona conditions at Paderborn University were systematically analysed.
The surveys were conducted by the entire "Psychological Diagnostics and Support with a Focus on Inclusive Education" group under the direction of Prof. Dr. Katrin B. Klingsieck and Dr Justine Patrzek(Cognitive Psychology) in the summer semester 2020, winter semester 20/21 and summer semester 2021 as online surveys among Paderborn University students and included numerous questions on various fields of study: stress during the corona pandemic and the design of and satisfaction with teaching. In addition to closed response formats, open questions were also used in order to obtain as comprehensive a picture as possible of the situation of students at Paderborn University during the coronavirus semester. The answers to these open questions were evaluated and analysed as part of QUICS. The analysis is based on a total of 2,005 data sets.
Based on the qualitative content analysis according to Philipp A. E. Mayring (2010), a category system was first developed deductively on the basis of the open questions, tested on the material and then made available to a total of seven Bachelor's and Master's students, who analysed the material as part of their final theses using the category system and at the same time developed it further inductively.
On this page, we would like to present the results of QUICS to you.

Cheat sheet for teachers
Recommendations for teachers were summarised from the results of the coronavirus surveys regarding student feedback and wishes. If a comparable situation arises in the future in which there is a need to carry out university teaching completely digitally, the following recommendations of action for teachers can be used.
- Uniform use of the PANDA learning management system: The use of other digital platforms should be avoided if the project can also be realised via PANDA.
- Video conferences should be held uniformly via the Zoom digital platform.
- Where possible, a combination of audio slides, uploaded video and audio recording formats and regular video conferences should be used in teaching.
- Pure written word in lectures should be avoided as a matter of urgency.
- Where possible, group work should be avoided.
Master of Corona? Students' lives during the pandemic - films, research, discussion
Selected results from the QUICS project have already been presented at Paderborn University's Studiobühne theatre. In cooperation with Dr. Sascha Löschner, the director of the Studiobühne, an evening programme was created in which several short films from the seminar "Pandemic Performances" were shown and accompanied by quotes from the Corona survey. Afterwards, Prof Dr Katrin B. Klingsieck and Dr Sascha Löschner answered various questions from the audience in a panel discussion.
