Former popper Prof. Dr. Nicolas Ruth as a guest in the seminar "Media culture techniques of preservation: remembering, collecting, archiving, musealising" by Prof. Dr. Christoph Jacke

As part of the "Pop20" series, Prof. Dr. Nicolas Ruth was a guest via Zoom in Prof. Dr. Christoph Jacke's seminar "Media Culture Techniques of Preservation: Remembering, Collecting, Archiving, Musealising" on 19 May. Prof. Ruth, who himself completed a Master's degree in "Popular Music and Media" and worked as a tutor for Prof. Jacke, is now Professor of Digital Communication in the Music and Entertainment Industry at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. Ruth reported on a joint publication project for an international academic journal on the topic of "New, Old, Retro: Revivals, Fashions, Trends in Pop". He presented examples of music videos and songs as well as fan talk from the - so it should be discussed - New New Punk. The very lively and vivid exchange with the Master's students centred on questions of perspectives, sounds, music and images relating to pop music cultural fashions and trends and provided revealing insights into Ruth and Jacke's work and, above all, their current collaborative project on revivals, stars and media. Prof. Ruth had great fun, and as an ex-popper he has already made a note of the date of the anniversary party and research centre opening on 30 June.
