Journalist Marc-Stefan Andres as a guest in the seminar "Pop Music Journalism: Between Ego Trip and Advertising" by Prof Dr Christoph Jacke

On Tuesday, 9 May, as part of its 20th anniversary, the degree programme hosted a discussion with journalist Marc-Stefan Andres. As part of Prof Dr Christoph Jacke's seminar "Pop music journalism: between ego trip and advertising", students Jannis Baumert, Gabriel Gödde and Josephine Petersen spoke with the seminar guest about new forms of (pop music) and local journalism. Thanks to his various activities as an entrepreneur, journalist, musician and co-founder of the local magazine "RUMS" from Münster, Andres was able to tell the students a lot about working in journalism, especially local journalism, and answer the students' many questions. He himself emphasised that for the future of journalism, trust in the media must be strengthened more in order to be able to keep journalistic formats that promote democracy as objective as possible. What was special about the talk was that Marc-Stefan Andres also wanted the students to answer three questions at the end. Firstly, the students were asked to say whether, and if not why, they do not have a local medium, what particularly interests them as the younger generation in local events and which channels should be used for the interests of young people and young adults. Andres was not particularly surprised by the answers. Many students do not own any local media, as they are only in the city temporarily, but would be more interested in cultural visibility, especially of subcultures, and would like to see more forms of newsletters and a more visible presence on social media. Andres was able to use the students' ideas and suggestions productively for his work as a journalist and also promised to be the students' contact for journalistic questions and activities outside of his visit to the university.
