Forschung
Inhaltlich verfolgt das Historische Institut in der Forschung fünf transepochale Profilschwerpunkte, die unsere Expertise auch über die bestehenden Arbeitsbereiche hinweg bündeln und unsere Vernetzung mit anderen Bereichen der Fakultät für Kulturwissenschaften und der Universität Paderborn voranbringen. Der weitere Ausbau der Profilbereiche und deren Sichtbarkeit nach außen ist ein Kernanliegen des Historischen Instituts in den kommenden Jahren. Wir verfolgen es durch die Bündelung von Forschungsaktivitäten, den Aufbau von Kooperationen mit anderen Fächern der Universität wie den Wirtschaftswissenschaften und den Digital Humanities.

Humanitäre Auslandshilfe in der Nachkriegszeit: Erholungsaufenthalte deutscher Kinder im europäischen Ausland, 1945-1955

Knapp 50.000 deutsche Kinder wurden nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs von europäischen Familien für Erholungsaufenthalte aufgenommen. Dies ist ein frühes Beispiel der humanitären Auslandshilfe und es überrascht vor allem aufgrund des Kontextes. Die betroffenen europäischen Länder bewiesen Verantwortungsbewusstsein und brachten der leidenden Zivilbevölkerung im zerstörten Deutschland Fürsorge statt Rache- und Vergeltungsgedanken entgegen. Die verschiedenen kirchlichen, Regierungs- und gewerkschaftlichen Organisationen der Siegermächte, Überfallenen sowie neutralen Ländern übten wichtige humanitäre Hilfe aus, die Aktionen brachten allerdings auch Probleme mit sich. Das Dissertationsprojekt befasst sich mit der Frage, inwiefern sich die grundlegenden Probleme des Humanitarismus im Blick auf Erholungsaufenthalte deutscher Kinder im europäischen Ausland klären lassen. Dabei werden die Prinzipien und Konzepte des Humanitarismus ebenso in den Blick gefasst wie die daraus resultierenden Dilemmata.
Die „Japanische Herausforderung“ und die westdeutsche Unterhaltungselektronikindustrie

Das Dissertationsprojekt untersucht die Reaktionen der westdeutschen Unterhaltungselektronikindustrie auf die zunehmende japanische Konkurrenz von ca. 1970 bis 1985. Der zunehmende Wettbewerb in der Strukturkrise wurde von dem Diskurs über die zeitgenössisch so genannte „Japanische Herausforderung“ begleitet, der neben der Analyse des vermeintlichen Erfolgsmodells wesentlich durch Zukunftsentwürfe und stereotype Wahrnehmungen geprägt war. Im Sinne einer relationalen industry history untersucht das Projekt beispielhalft die Krisenreaktionsstrategien der Unternehmen Grundig und Telefunken, die nationalen und europäischen politökonomischen Steuerungs- und Moderierungsversuche, die Auswirkungen auf die Arbeitsbeziehungen sowie die Rolle der Konsument*innen.
Die Studie leistet somit einen Beitrag zur „Globalisierungsgeschichte“ der Bundesrepublik und knüpft an aktuelle wirtschaftswissenschaftliche und -soziologische Debatten an (Robert Shiller, Jens Beckert), indem empirisch die Rolle von Narrativen in ökonomischen Prozessen ausgelotet wird.
