General information on courses
Please note: Due to the changes to the PO since winter semester 2020/21, the quality of teaching, the organisation of studies and students' wishes, the following applies from summer semester 2023:
Only one compulsory elective course from the "Artistcoaching" series and one compulsory elective course from the "Instruments" series by Thorsten Drücker can be taken during the Bachelor's degree programme. It is not possible for these courses to be recognised in the Studium Generale or for other modules beyond the "Music and Media Practice/Music Journalism" modules in the BA and MA.
In general, compulsory courses may only be taken once during the course of the degree programme. Multiple enrolments are also not possible for crediting in other modules (e.g. in the Studium Generale). This also applies if the title changes slightly and for all compulsory seminars/lectures such as Stilkopie, Pop Music History, Introduction to Popular Music and Media, Music Production etc.
If courses are already full in terms of the maximum number of participants, please first check whether there are still opportunities to participate in other courses in the module. Lecturers are required to only register students retrospectively if there are no more free places in alternative courses. This applies in particular to modules M4, M7, M8 and M9 in the Bachelor's programme. If there are no more free places in the modules, you can have your name added by the lecturers in justified individual cases. Additional places may be released at the beginning of the revision phase.
In principle, the regulations have been in place since the introduction of the PO 2020 in winter semester 2020/21, but there have apparently been repeated individual additions and changes. In the interests of protecting student confidence, this will not be sanctioned retroactively, but will no longer be possible from the summer semester 2023 onwards.
We strongly recommend that you always make sure before or at the beginning of your participation in courses, taking into account the recommended course schedules and examination regulations, that the course assignments fit properly into your curriculum and that you are registered for the course, coursework and, if applicable, examinations. If you have already completed your modules in full or courses cannot (or can no longer) be included in the curriculum, it is always possible to obtain confirmation from the lecturers that you have attended the course voluntarily in addition and without ECTS.
If you have any questions or need advice, please contact the Student Advisory Service at sbpop@mail.uni-paderborn.de or Prof.in Dr. Beate Flath and Prof. Dr. Christoph Jacke during their office hours.
