Already on January 10, the Model United Nations conference season at Paderborn University kicked off strongly with great momentum through PrepMUN – a conference initiated by faculty advisor Denise Parkinson.
This event offered 65 participants, most of whom are Oral Proficiency students, the unique opportunity to apply their classroom-acquired skills in a practical setting. As such, students mastered essential soft and interpersonal skills, including active listening, verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as innovative approaches to conflict resolution. Encouraged to step beyond their comfort zones, they underwent a steep learning curve that combined invaluable personal growth with an atmosphere of enjoyment and mutual inspiration. Immediately following PrepMUN, the 2025 NMUN Delegation passionately participated in EfMUN last weekend for the eighth consecutive time as part of their preparation for the NMUN conference in April. More than mere preparation, however, EfMUN proved to be an important catalyst for team building: over the course of the conference, delegates forged stronger bonds and thus developed a cohesive team spirit. Moreover, beyond fostering camaraderie, the Paderborn delegation was richly honored as they received five awards, including three position paper awards and two peer awards. In sum, these conferences not only established a dynamic tone for the new year but also set the stage for upcoming highlights such as GerMUN in Berlin, NMUN-NY, PaderMUN, and Erasmus BIP-MUN in LeMan.
