About the Graduate Centre of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (GKW)
The Graduate Centre of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (GKW) thrives on the participation of those who research and teach together in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. At the same time, it is a particular concern of the GKW to offer networking opportunities to (especially international) "external" academics in qualification phases at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities who are pursuing further qualifications without physical proximity to or an official connection to our faculty, and to support them on their way to completing their doctorate or successfully completing their research projects.
The GKW understands the doctoral and postdoctoral phases as phases of independent and autonomous research. Thus, the services offered by the GKW to graduates of the Faculty of Cultural Studies primarily serve to support academics in qualification phases in achieving the goals defined by themselves in consultation with their doctoral supervisors.
The latter applies to research and qualification goals as well as to other career goals. The counselling services offered and/or arranged by the GKW therefore also focus on professional activities outside academia that follow on from academic qualifications.
Under the umbrella of the Jenny Aloni Center for Early-Career Researchers at Paderborn University, the GKW is linked to the other graduate centres at Paderborn University.
Furthermore, the GKW is in close partnership with the Graduate Forum of the Faculty of Cultural Studies (GFKW), the independent representation of graduate students' interests. University policy concerns are represented by the graduate students of the Graduate Forum.
From a formal point of view, the doctoral procedure is supervised by the doctoral committee of the Faculty of Cultural Studies.
