Funding
In many, but not all cases, the publication of your doctoral dissertation is associated with costs (printing subsidies), which must generally be borne by the authors or covered by acquisitions. However, if you would like to publish with the University Library of Paderborn University, this service is free of charge.
On this page you will find information on funding options for your publication such as (subject-specific) printing subsidies and calls for proposals for doctoral prizes.
Financing options
Excellent doctoral dissertations can be nominated for doctoral prizes by the reviewers and/or the authors. The Faculty of Cultural Studies and the Paderborn University offer the following prizes once a year:
- Doctoral Prize KW
- UPB Doctoral Prize
(Calls for proposals for the dissertation prizes can be found on the central pages of the Research Commission from June onwards. Your contact person is Ms. Katharina Patz. Furthermore, doctoral candidates can apply for printing subsidies . A list of application possibilities can be found below.

- On the page of the Centre for Graduate Studies at the University of Wuppertal, under the heading "Funding Opportunities", you can find not only printing cost grants - both general and subject-specific - but also scholarship databases, organisations for the promotion of gifted students, research institutions and other foundations.
- Gisela and Peter W. Schatt Foundation Doctoral scholarships, printing subsidies for doctoral dissertations in music education and funds for the specific procurement of materials.

After concluding a publishing agreement, it is a good idea to register the publication with the VG-Wort. You will receive a distribution for your published doctoral dissertation once you have concluded a rights management agreement. Further information can be found on the VG-Wort website.
