Guest stay at Paderborn University
Doctoral students from other universities have the opportunity to complete a guest stay at Paderborn University. This is possible in the framework of existing cooperation agreements, but also outside of them (as exchange students or scholarship holders).
Doctoral exchange students from partner universities/with scholarships (incoming, 3rd Cycle)
Incoming doctoral students who apply to Paderborn University as doctoral students from a partner university via the so-called "3rd Cycle" can spend one (or two) semesters abroad at Paderborn University. In this case, you do not necessarily need a direct supervisor at Paderborn University, but you should make detailed arrangements with your supervisor at your home university concerning your stay in Paderborn and, ideally, find a supervisor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities so that you can achieve the greatest possible potential for your stay abroad. If you would like to complete a stay in Paderborn with a scholarship, you will need a supervisor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities as well as your scholarship confirmation.
Incoming doctoral students who come to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities from a partner university (in the 3rd Cycle) do not have to go through prior certificate recognition.
Incoming doctoral students who come to Paderborn University via a partnership or a Paderborn University exchange program are automatically enrolled as (doctoral) students. The enrollment is done automatically as an administrative step by our International Office, but obligates, among other things, the purchase of the discounted semester ticket, allows discounts in the Paderborn University canteen or cafeteria. The access to the university library is independent of enrollment and can be made possible by purchasing a library card.
For further information please contact the International Office.
