General safety instruction
At the beginning of each semester, the participants of the seminars are given an overview of the hazards and safety regulations to be observed in the various workshop areas during an inspection and handed out a multi-page Information sheet on the safety regulations (lnformation sheet). General safety instruction is a prerequisite for independent work in the workshops and studios.
Separate introductory courses (so-called tutorials) are held for all studios and techniques.
Working with hazardous substances
Work and handling of hazardous substances (such as plastics, silicates, acids, etc.) is at your own risk. Information on the ingredients, risks and protective measures is provided in the operating instructions posted in the workshop. Detailed safety data sheets can be obtained from the respective workshop manager.
Labeling of hazardous substances
The "Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals" (GHS) replaces the previous European system for the classification and labelling of chemicals and will be introduced here by 2014 at the latest. A comparison of the old and new hazard pictograms can be found here.
Work with machines
Work on equipment and machines may only be carried out after instruction in an introductory course / tutorial by the responsible studio manager. The posted operating instructions provide information on the risks and protective measures.
Personal protective clothing
Pay attention to mandatory signs in the studio and to notes in the operating instructions in order to be able to protect yourself from possible hazards (e.g. by wearing protective gloves).
