The Graduate Center of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (GKW), founded in 2021, is an academic institution of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Its events and programs are directed at prospective doctoral candidates, PhD candidates, postdocs, and junior professors.
Members of the GKW include all doctoral students, postdocs, junior professors and lecturers as well as all academic staff of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
The GKW is led by a board of directors and supervised by an executive board.
The GKW thrives on the participation of those who research and teach together at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. At the same time, it is particularly important to the GKW to offer networking opportunities to "external" and international junior academics of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, who are pursuing further qualifications without being located close to or working at our faculty. The GKW aims to support them in completing their doctoral studies and in successfully concluding their research projects.
The GKW understands the doctoral and postdoctoral phases as phases of independent and autonomous research. Thus, the services offered by the GKW to graduates of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities primarily serve to support junior academics in achieving the goals they have defined in agreement with their doctoral supervisors.
The latter also applies to research and qualification goals as well as to further career goals. The consultations offered and/or arranged by the GKW therefore also focus on professional activities outside academia that succeed academic qualifications.
The GKW is connected to the other graduate centers at Paderborn University through the Jenny Aloni Center for Early-Career Researchers.
Furthermore, the GKW maintains a close partnership with the Graduate Forum of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities (GFKW) (only available in German), which represents the independent interests of graduate students.
Regarding formal matters, the final phase of the PhD process is supervised by the Promotionsausschuss (PhD Board) of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
