For the third and last time, the international Summer School "Higher Education Research/Approaches to Research on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (HoBid)" funded by the Volkswagen Foundation took place in Paderborn from 11 to 15 September. In the spirit of international and interdisciplinary cooperation, Prof. Dr. Tobias Jenert (Faculty of Economics, Paderborn University), Prof. Dr. Ingrid Scharlau (Faculty of Cultural Studies, Paderborn University) and Jun.-Prof. Dr. Carla Bohndick (University of Hamburg) welcomed thirteen Early Career Researchers from Germany, seven from Europe and eleven from non-European countries.

The Summer School series is aimed specifically at doctoral researchers in the interdisciplinary field of higher education research. Doctoral researchers in this field need strong skills in dealing with the various disciplines involved in teaching and learning in higher education, but often do not have their own scholarly community. The Summer School should change both of these.

The aim of the Summer School was to offer participants the opportunity for intensive interdisciplinary work, concrete further work on their projects, academic training and international networking. The doctoral researchers discussed their own projects in daily meetup groups and listened to lectures by experts Dorothe Kienhues (Münster) and Theresa Velden (Berlin) on science communication, which they then discussed. They also had the opportunity to learn more about science communication on social media, podcasting, transdisciplinarity and decolonising the curriculum from (inter)national experts in science communication in two methodological workshops. The intensive and hierarchy-free exchange, the positive atmosphere and the hospitality were emphasised by the participants as outstanding features of the Summer School.
