Textile students and lecturers from Paderborn University present sustainably designed works at the WDR studio in Bielefeld
On Saturday, 27 April, the annual Nachtansichten Bielefeld will offer a unique opportunity to explore the city's art scene in a nocturnal atmosphere. The gallery of the WDR studio in Bielefeld will open its doors from 6 pm to midnight. Under the motto "Upcycling and Sustainability", students and lecturers from Paderborn University's textile department will be presenting creative works and ideas. Among other things, they will show how new and unique outfits have been created from used sports jerseys from SC Paderborn and discarded high-quality clothes from the fashion shop "princess" in Paderborn. The works are not only an expression of their artistic skills, but also send a clear signal in favour of environmentally conscious design. Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of creativity and discover fascinating works of art. The exhibition was curated by Master's students under the direction of Saskia Detmar, Isabel Pallas and Prof Alexandra Kürtz from the Textiles department.
Amid growing awareness of climate change and the environmental crisis, the concept of upcycling and sustainability is rapidly gaining traction in the art and fashion industry. By reusing and reinterpreting materials, upcycling helps to reduce waste and resource consumption. This innovative approach is in line with the urgent need to promote more sustainable practices and shape a fashionable future.
The WDR studio will open its studios and control rooms during the event, while employees of the broadcaster will provide insights into their work and answer questions. Students and lecturers will also be available to answer questions and engage in personal dialogue.
