The Department of Contemporary History and the C:POP Research Centre invite you to the lecture by Dr. Martin Göllnitz on 2 June 2026 at 4.15 pm:
"(I can't get no) securization". Security dynamics of pop in the 1950s and 1960s.
Anyone who thinks of pop music generally associates it with distraction and entertainment, lavish concerts and rhythmic dance moves, hardly any threat scenarios and security discourses. Nevertheless, pop music is almost inextricably linked to the narrative of insecurity, as the lecture shows in the social perception and labelling of rock'n'roll and beat. Whether Elvis, Bill Haley, the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, they were all perceived to varying degrees as a threat to the traditional norms and values of post-war West German society, as the lecture will show using sound examples, song lyrics and fashions.
All interested parties are welcome to attend the lecture on 2 June at 4.15 pm in room N1.101.
